Have you ever seen such beautiful donuts?
Copa Vida is an adorable cafe located in Old Town Pasadena, about 15 minutes away from my house.
I know parents/other elders always teach kids, "don't judge a book by its cover," but I've never been one to follow that kind of advice. I definitely judge many things by their external appearance, at least in the beginning. What drew me to Copa Vida, almost a year ago, was when I drove past it and was intrigued by the minimalist exterior. The cafe looked simple, modern, and comfortable, so down the name went on my list of "Places To Eat." A year later, I finally paid Copa Vida a visit.
Copa Vida has a beautiful interior with plenty of natural lighting, a friendly staff, and plenty of seating. My parents, little sister, and I decided to share two donuts, and my mom and I also got coffee.
Pretty latte art: CHECK.
Gourmet donuts: CHECK.
We got one Lemon-Raspberry...
...and one Espresso-Chocolate.
Both were delightful. I'm not a huge donut person. I mean, if someone presented me with a box of Krispy Kreme's, I'd probably go for one. But if the only option was a cake donut from Winchell's, I'd pass. But give me gourmet donuts, and I'm all for it.
I especially loved the Lemon-Raspberry donut because the citrus and berry flavors gave a sort of lightness to a pastry that's normally very heavy. It's kind of like that logic you use to justify that gigantic grilled cheese you had for lunch by saying it's healthy because the bread was whole-wheat sourdough and cheese has some protein in it.
This donut had FRUIT on it! Berries are high in antioxidants! Therefore, this donut is healthy!
Oh, the lies we tell ourselves. Regardless, these donuts were worth every indulgent calorie. Go big or go home. Treat yo' self.
